The 56th Communications Squadron and the 56th Security Forces Squadron faced-off in the 2014 intramural football season championship game at the base track Feb. 19. The score was SFS 19-18. The battle was fierce, with both sides playing their best ball, however SFS eked out a one-point win.

CS won the coin-toss and elected to kickoff, with total confidence in their defense. After an unsuccessful drive, SFS turned the ball over to CS, who began their drive with a 20-yard pass down the field for a first down.

They received an off-sides penalty, but made it up with a touchdown with a throw down the field on the first play. Unable to convert the extra point, the score was 6-0, 10 minutes into the first half.

SFS tied the score right away with a deep pass down the field. Their defense heated up, making stops late into the half. Tempers flared as referees threw flags.

With three minutes left in the first half, CS scored with a 20-yard run and took the lead 13-6.

SFS and CS went on to throw back-to-back interceptions with SFS capitalizing with a touchdown to go into the second half up 13-12.

In the second half both teams emerged focused; however, the SFS defense proved to be the key. SFS ran the ball down the field for 40 yards on the second play of their first drive and scored giving them a 19-12 lead.

CS scored again, but the SFS goal-line defense prevented the extra point and a tie. SFS got possession of the ball and ran out the clock to win the game.

Both teams played physical, but the CS game against the 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron played minutes before may have exhausted their team.

"Both teams played hard," said Robert Smoot, 56th CS. "We were a little fatigued from the first game, but they played harder and won."

This is 56th SFS second championship title in a row, even though they played with fewer players.

"We overcame obstacles," said Lindsay Thompson, 56th SFS. "Even though we lost a lot of our players, we conquered more with less."
