The 56th Force Support Squadron battled the Logistics Readiness Squadron team during the intramural basketball championship game Sept. 18 at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center gym. FSS won the title 41-38.

FSS finished the regular season with a record of 8-3 and LRS with a record of 6-5.

The game was fast-paced from tip-off as the teams battled for the victory. The teams were scoring equally during the game, but LRS was able to take the lead with a minute left on the clock during the first half. FSS had many opportunities to retake the lead, but was unable to as LRS finished the first half up 18-14.

The FSS team made strategic changes during halftime.

"We needed to calm down," said Dion Perry, a member of the FSS team. "By calming down, we were able to make smart plays and not miss easy opportunities."

As the second half began, FSS worked on their offense and was able to tie the game, bringing the score to 21-21 with 10 minutes to go. LRS was able to keep a single-digit lead for most of game, but their lack of communication and defense cost them their lead with five minutes to play in the second half. FSS fought with everything they had to finally take the lead with one minute to go. LRS had time to retake the lead but could not pull off the comeback.

"It was Perry who gave us the push to win," said Airman 1st Class Brando Sompie, 56th FSS services journyman. "He got the team together and gave us a pep talk to get us back to our game. Also, shout out to our defense as well. We struggled a bit in the first half, but we came out swinging in the second half to take the victory."
