The 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron and the 56th Civil Engineer Squadron intermural football teams stepped on the field Oct. 19 for an intramural battle at Luke Air Force Base. 56 EMS defeated the 56th CES 27-14.

The 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron team came in the game with a fast pace, as they were the first to score, bringing the score to 6-0 with 15 minutes left in the first half. EMS continued their dominance by scoring 15 unanswered points, bringing the score to 21-0 with three minutes left. With EMS on a scoring streak, it looked as though it would be a shutout, but CES managed to score, bringing the score to 21-6 at the end of the first half.

EMS was determined to win the game and keep their winning record.

"Make smart catches was our game plan," said Senior Airman Benjamin Bright, 56th EMS wide receiver.  "Our short pass game in the first half proved to be working for us. If we keep that up in the second half, the game is ours."

The second half of the game started well for CE.  They were the first to score bringing the score to 21-14 with 10 minutes left in the second half. Both teams were playing heavy defense throughout the second half, knocking down passes and making successful stops.  Even with the incredible defense by CE, it wasn't enough to stop EMS from reaching the end zone as they scored again ending the game with the score of 27-14.

"We definitely played well," said Warrant Officer Rafael Lopez, 56th EMS running back. "We played great defense throughout most of the game and used the other team's mistakes as our advantage and was able to get the victory."
