Justin Fromm, 56th Component Maintenance Squadron egress systems craftsman, demonstrates how to pull the handle of an F-35A Lightning II ejection seat May 29, 2020, at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz. The F-35 and F-16 Fighting Falcon each have a D-ring handle between the pilot’s knees which is pulled in an emergency, triggering a series of gaseous explosions that jettisons the canopy and propels the pilot out of the aircraft. Three F-35A Lightning IIs assigned to the 62nd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz., are lined up and ready to takeoff on a mission as part of Red Flag, exercise 19-2, March 14, 2019, at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. Italian and Norwegian F-35 instructor pilots participated in the exercise for the first time and the integration and cohesion of the 62nd FS was displayed to other coalition partners.
