61st AMU uses live GBUs enhancing combat readiness

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Nikolas Ramirez and Airman 1st Class Justin Stockdill, 61st Aircraft Maintenance Unit maintainers, guide a GBU-31 joint direct attack munition to an F-35A Lightning II Aug. 9, 2021, at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. While using live GBU-31s is not a requirement in their syllabus, 61st Fighter Squadron pilots employ live munitions as a capstone for finishing their surface attack phase of training, adding an additional level of focus for student pilots already completing a rigorous training curriculum. Through realistic training experiences, the 61st AMU and 61st FS develop combat ready pilots and mission enhancing lethality and readiness within the Air Force.
