  • Hidden talents; Luke Airmen build resilience through music

    Twenty-four U.S. Air Force active-duty members, Reserve Citizen Airmen, spouses and Department of Defense civilians have formed a musical group called the Fighter Country Talent Squad. It all began with Lt. Col. Roger Greenwood, 944th Operations Group Detachment 2 director of operations, and his 28-year long passion for playing the guitar.

Catherine Buchanan, 944th FW command chief, presented the Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command A1 Gerritt D. Foster, Jr. Award to the 944th Force Support Squadron during Greenwald’s final Commander’s Call May 2, 2021 at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. The Military Personnel Flight was recognized as the 2020 Outstanding MPF of the Year.

    Maj. Nicholas “JAKAL” Rallo, an instructor pilot with the 944th Fighter Wing, became the first Luke Air Force Base F-35 Lightning II pilot to attain 1,000 F-35 flying hours here, February 22, 2021.
  • Luke reinforces TFI with DoD level maintenance award

    The 56th and 944th Fighter Wings’ maintenance groups, referred to as the 1K Maintenance Group at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, will be recipients of the 2020 Secretary of Defense Field-level Maintenance Award in the large category. The information was officially confirmed in a Department of Defense news release posted on Nov. 19.
  • Luke pilot reaches rare milestone, surpasses 3k flying hours in F-16

    As of Nov. 23, 2020, only 295 pilots worldwide could claim to have surpassed three thousand flying hours in the F-16 Fighting Falcon.  That number is now 296.Col.     Reserve Citizen Airmen from the 944th Fighter Wing at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, executed an F-35 Lightning II Missing Man formation flyover October 2, 2020. The mission over the Arizona State Capitol paid tribute to the late Maj. George Washington Biggs, U.S. Air Force (Ret.).
  • Standing ready to serve her country

    COVID-19 has taken the world by surprise, forcing isolation, social distancing, and sacrifice. For one Reservist, the Nightingale Pledge and duty to her country ran parallel in her decision to help combat the virus. Maj. Lizy Windsor, 944th Medical Squadron clinical nurse, was prepared to support the pandemic before the official notification came through.
