Disney himself took on a personal project for the war effort which was creating unique insignia to not only bring humor to units, but to help boost morale at home and overseas. More and more of Disney’s art was used as decals on tanks, trucks, bombs, planes and many different types of military transport and equipment. The boxing bulldog was presented to Sgt. Jeffrey Nemecek, grandfather of Maureen Wagner, 1, how to ensure the child safety restraint is properly secured at a free safety car seat inspection event at Luke AFB. The event was free to Luke Thunderbolts and taught participants how to properly select a car seat based on the height and weight of the child and how to install it correctly. In Arizona, child car seats are required for children to age 5 and booster seats for children 5 through 8 who are 4’9” and shorter.

Did you know… Red Tails played vital role in WWII

This airpark is dedicated to the Red Tail warriors of the Tuskegee Airmen. The F-16 Fighting Falcon static display has a red tail in honor of the 332nd Fighter Group, which was known as the Red Tail Angels that flew in World War II. The nose of the F-16 is painted with the words “By request,” taken from the nose art of Col. Benjamin Davis who told his fellow pilots that under no circumstances were they to leave the bombers they were protecting even after the bombs had been dropped. The P-51 was one of the best fighters ever flown at the time when the 332nd Fighter Group began to develop a reputation with its escorted bomber groups. Bomber groups knew that if they were escorted by the Red-tailed Mustangs they stood a greater chance of returning home from their missions. Very soon the 332nd FG was placed on many mission boards “by request.” This delighted Davis so much, that he had his crew chief paint the phrase on the side of his aircraft. The airpark is near the 944th Fighter Wing headquarters building on Super Sabre Street.

The 56th Fighter Wing Protocol team watches the 56th Force Support Squadron change of command July 17. The team ensures Air Force ceremonial traditions and procedures are followed. Change of command ceremonies are steeped in tradition and specific rules for behavior must be followed. Protocol members enforce policies ranging from when guests arrive, the order in which speeches are given to proper flag folding procedures.
