  • The psychology of leadership

When given the opportunity to lead, how do great leaders ensure people want to follow them?  In the military it is sometimes the case that followers simply have to follow, but what makes people want to follow? The study of leadership has been taking place since the beginning of time.  Great philosophers and warriors like Plato and Sun Tzu have
  • Embracing Change

Are you afraid of change? Most people are.  Every day we experience change in our lives and we certainly can't hide from it.  We learn and grow from changes, that's what makes the world go around.  With all of the Air Force and day-to-day life changes, learning to deal with change must be one of our biggest priorities. Some ways to successfully
  • People

As I reflect on almost 25 years of military service, I find it easy to remember my assignments, multiple jobs and duties I have performed. I have served on four continents and served four different presidents. There is a relatively small, unknown building at Luke Air Force Base across the street from the base library. It houses nearly 50 individuals who make up a team of dedicated hard-working bats. "Genuine leaders have the ability to articulate, initiate and follow-through on their vision."~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.This quote from King epitomizes the importance of developing our communication skills as leaders and managers. As we get older, many of us get set in our ways and live by the phrase, "This is who I am." That mindset can easily
  • Be honest ... choose to not lie

"Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters."~ Albert EinsteinWhat is your truest definition of honesty? Is it simply telling the truth? Is that all there is to honesty? If honesty is simply telling the truth, do you understand what telling the truth entails? We all know it's wrong to lie, but isn't
  • Mentorship: Important at all levels

I believe one of the greatest opportunities and responsibilities we as leaders have is mentoring Airmen at all levels.Mentoring helps Airmen understand how their ambitions fit into the Air Force mission, life and their career choices. Each of us have areas of expertise that we have acquired over our careers, and some of us may have acquired a
